Glossary of Aston Martin Terms

If you’re new the the fascinating world of Aston Martins, this this glossary may help you. Words like ‘superleggera’ ‘kamm tail’ and ‘cosmetic’ often cause confusion so this section is here to demystify things a little. I have tried to include as many specialised Aston Martin related words as possible plus some others which have caused confusion to visitors in the past. Red Bull Technology

Red Bull Technology is a subsidiary of the Formula 1 team, Red Bull Racing, who are partnering with Aston Martin to build the AM-RB001 / Valkyrie

Rokona

Rokona-Textilwerk is a German textile company who make the fabric used in the headlining of VH architecture Volantes. The Rokona supplied fabric material has both anti-odour and anti-soil properties

(The) Register

A virtually complete list of Aston Martins, initially created by the Aston Martin Owners Club and now the responsibility of the Aston Martin Heritage Trust.

Roadster

A roadster is a commonly used description for a 2 seater open sportscar. It is also used as a model name for the V8 Vantage Roadster as that particular Aston Martin is not described as a Volante.

Radford

Harold Radford and Co Ltd were coachbuildwe based in South Kensington, London. They were responsible for creating many of the ultra rare DB5 and DB6 Shooting Brakes.

Ronal

Manufacturers of alloy wheels. Suppliers to AML of wonderful (and now unobtainable) spoked wheels for the X-pack V8 Vantage.

Razor Blade

Razor Blade is an early works Aston-Martin (Bamford and Martin) built with a ludicrously narrow streamlined body.

RSW

Richard S Williams, runs a famous Aston Martin restoration business in Cobham. Also responsible for the RSW 5.7, 6.3 wand 7.0 litre V8 engine and the team manager for Viscount Downe’s Nimrod and the 1989 AMR1 Group C Endurance race car.

Rapide

The Lagonda Rapide of the early 1960’s was a four door saloon based on a lengthened DB4 chassis and with a 4 litre version on the 6 cylinder unit. Now the name is being used on the current 4 door  car using the VH architecture.
