Glossary of Aston Martin Terms

If you’re new the the fascinating world of Aston Martins, this this glossary may help you. Words like ‘superleggera’ ‘kamm tail’ and ‘cosmetic’ often cause confusion so this section is here to demystify things a little. I have tried to include as many specialised Aston Martin related words as possible plus some others which have caused confusion to visitors in the past. Hunter Green Collection

This was a collection of nine V8 cars from the late 1980’s all built to the same cosmetic specification of Hunter Green coachwork with tan hide. They comprised of V8 saloon, V8 Vantage, V8 Volante, Lagonda, V8 Vantage Volante, V8 Vantage Volante PoW, V8 Vantage Zagato, V8 Zagato Volante  and a Virage. This unique collection was eventually broken up in 2005 when they were sold by Bonhams at the annual Aston Martin auction.

HWM

Heath Walton Motors, originally run by George Abecassis, AM works driver (and David Brown’s son in law). The oldest Aston Martin distributor in the world with over 50 years association with the marque. Also an excellent source of spares through Aston Martin Heritage Parts.

Horsfall

St John (Jock) Horsfall, Aston Martin race driver, who won the 1946 Spa 24 hour race. Died whilst driving an ERA at Silverstone in 1949. The AMOC named their annual race meeting the St John Horsfall which features the St John Horsfall race for pre-war Aston Martins.
