DB11 V12 Coupe

DB11 V12 Coupe

The DB11 showcases a fresh and distinctive design language, pioneering aerodynamics and is powered by a potent new in-house designed 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine. Built upon a new lighter, stronger, and more space efficient bonded aluminium structure, DB11 is the most powerful, most efficient and most dynamically gifted DB model in Aston Martin’s history. As such, it is the most significant new Aston Martin since the introduction of the DB9 in 2003.

Heralding a new design era for Aston Martin, DB11 is the latest landmark in a remarkable aesthetic journey; one that gave us icons such as the DB2/4, DB5 and, most recently, the DB10 developed specifically for James Bond. DB11 re-imagines the relationship between form and function with a series of fresh design signatures. Foremost amongst these are the front-hinging clamshell bonnet, distinctive LED headlights and accentuated lines of the iconic Aston Martin grille.

The wraparound clamshell bonnet, largest seen on a production car, minimises unsightly shut-lines for a pure, sculptural quality not seen on other cars. Its size means it is also exceptionally effective at dissipating energy, negating the need for space-consuming pedestrian safety systems that would compromise DB11’s crisply tailored lines. As the bonnet hinges forward, it reveals a panoramic view of the magnificent V12 engine beneath, in a similar way to the DB2 of 1950

The profile is equally dramatic, thanks to the roof strakes that flow uninterrupted from A-pillar to C-pillar. The clean lines continue at the rear, with a sloping decklid that smoothly blends into boldly sculpted tail-lights to create a new and unmistakable graphic. The roof strakes can be initially specified as either bright anodised or gloss black. Body coloured roof strakes should become available in due course

Innovative aerodynamics play their part in this aesthetic revolution with clever management of airflow both over and through the bodywork aiding stability while preserving the DB11’s uncluttered surfaces. Front-end lift is reduced by the gill-like Curlicue which releases high-pressure air from inside the wheel arch via a concealed vent within the redesigned side-strake. Meanwhile, rear-end lift is reduced by the Aston Martin AerobladeTM; a virtual spoiler fed by discreet air intakes located at the base of each C-pillar. Air is ducted through the bodywork, before venting as a jet of air from the aperture in the rear decklid.

Like every Aston Martin, the heart of the DB11 is found beneath the bonnet, though unlike any Aston Martin before it, the DB11’s heart is a 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12. Designed in-house this new engine develops 608PS1 (600BHP1) and 700Nm1 of torque, making DB11 the most powerful production DB model ever. Naturally, it’s the most dynamic and most accelerative too, with a top speed of 200mph1 and a 0-62mph time of just 3.9sec1. Thanks to intelligent bank activation and stop-start technology that potency is matched by greatly improved efficiency.

To exploit the advantages of its new body structure and harness the immense performance of the new twin-turbo V12 engine, the DB11’s chassis, suspension, steering and electronics have been re-imagined  and key new technologies embraced. Multiple driver-selectable dynamic modes – GT, Sport and Sport Plus – progressively intensify the response of the engine, 8-speed automatic ZF transmission together with the new electric power steering and Torque Vectoring by braking while increasing the firmness of the adaptive damping for a greater sense of agility. The result is a driving experience that combines exemplary ride comfort and true sports car agility, for an extraordinary breadth of dynamic capability.

As a true 21st century Aston Martin the DB11 combines the very latest technology developed in conjunction with technical partner, Daimler AG, with the finest quality and hand craftsmanship. Using a full-colour 12” TFT LCD display, the all-new instrument cluster presents primary vehicle information with absolute clarity, while a second, centrally-mounted 8” TFT screen is dedicated to infotainment. Controlled via an intuitive rotary control, with an optional touchpad offering character recognition, multi-touch and gesture support, the new satellite navigation and audio system have never been more effective, sounded better or been easier to operate. A newly implemented auto-park assist feature and 360-degree birds-eye view camera helps provide safe maneuvering at slow speeds and is also operated via the car’s infotainment system.

The wheelbase is 65 mm longer than the outgoing DB9 GT and together with wider door apertures, gives significantly increased occupant space – especially head and legroom in the rear, the DB11 is a genuine Grand Tourer. Thanks to an inspiring palette of colours and a vast array of detailing options, its interior can be perfectly in-tune with your unique personal style. From calming, carefully co-ordinated tones to sharp contrasts in hue and texture, your choices are virtually limitless. Nexus quilting and Celestial perforation add layers of beautiful complexity and intrigue, while ornate leatherwork, such as intricate brogue detailing, creates areas of visual and tactile delight.

The original DB11 V12 Coupe was quite short lived being replaced in 2018 by the less expensive DB11 V8 coupe and the more powerful DB11 AMR Coupe. The use of AMR in branding was dropped in 2021 for the 2022 model year and therefore you could argue that the DB11 V12 Coupe was reintroduced. Production of the DB11 ended in the summer of 2023 and the car was replaced by the V8 powered DB12 Coupe

DBS Superleggera Bijan Edition

The special edition DBS features a number of striking enhancements to the car which make it instantly recognizable; perhaps most notably the bespoke ‘Bijan Yellow’ exterior paint finish which includes a subtle paisley pattern ghosted into the bonnet paint. Inside, interior detailing has been finished in Bijan’s characteristic soft alligator leathers; the owners initials can be personalized to the veneer, and the Bijan insignia is found throughout. This new edition will be available in both Coupe and Volante specification by order through Aston Martin authorized dealers worldwide, as well as through the House of Bijan directly.

The House Of Bijan is an exclusive designer brand with shops located on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills Waldorf Astoria and one at the Wynn Las Vegas. Opened in 1976 by the late Bijan Pakzad it is now run by his son, Nicolas Bijan. Other ‘drivable art’ at House of Bijan likes to call it created for their customers includes the 2008 Bijan Limited Edition Bugatti Veyron and 2010 Bijan Limited Edition Rolls Royce Phantom DHC.

DB11 V12 Coupe Launch Edition

The six colour schemes were each given a rather fancy name.

  • New Heritage –  A contemporary twist on classic style, hi-tech materials like Cuprum Carbon Fibre are used alongside traditional leather trim in Copper Tan and Bitter Chocolate. Arden Green coachwork evokes past glories of Racing Green for a modern look steeped in history.
  • Soft Tech – Scandinavian architectural design influences this cool, clean specification. Using complementary tones of Ice Mocha, Ivory, Dark Ash veneer, Satin Champagne metalware and Lightning Silver coachwork, this pared-back theme is a lesson in soothing minimalism and refreshing simplicity.
  • Shanghai Fashionista – Capturing a spirit of youthful flamboyance this vibrant statement specification is inspired by high fashion. The contrast of Frosted Glass Blue coachwork with Ivory and a flash of Vivid Red creates a bold expression of confidence and memorable individuality.
  • Mysterious Sport – A potent palette of brooding tones evokes an unmistakable aura of subtle masculinity. Use of Ultramarine Black for the coachwork and Dark Knight with Indigo Blue brogue and stitching bring surprising depth and detail to this darkly dynamic specification.
  • Intrepid Sport – A powerful exploration of the relationship between technology and the elements. Sharply contrasting Cinnabar Orange bodywork and black metalware make a striking exterior statement while Black Metallic leather and Chopped Carbon veneer combine to create an equally bold interior.
  • Iconic Craft – Marrying beautiful materials and exquisite craftsmanship, this specification showcases traditional techniques such as bookmatched wood veneers and ornate brogued leather. Together with an iconic exterior colour of Magnetic Silver, it exudes Aston Martin’s renowned quality and timeless style.

Dr Palmer was so confident of the build quality, he even suppled his email and phone number to buyers so they could contact him personally should any problems materialise.

These particular cars, known as the CEO Launch Editions, are very desirable.

    Vanquish Zagato Volante

The Vanquish Zagato Volante shares its proportions with the Coupe, a quintessential Aston Martin form with a classic Zagato twist, evoked by round tail light reflectors that use the same ‘bladed’ LED technology as the Aston Martin Vulcan supercar. The twin cowls on the rear deck blend into the leading edge of the luggage compartment, concealing a bespoke folding hood derived from the mechanism used in the Vanquish Volante. Carbon fibre sills around the lower body create a pronounced horizontal emphasis that runs from front to rear.

Inside, the Vanquish Zagato Volante continues the fine tradition of Aston Martin craftsmanship. Aston Martin’s specialist ‘Q’ division can add further personalisation and enhancement to a cabin finished with rich and highly luxurious materials, including herringbone carbon-fibre, anodized bronze detailing and the finest Bridge of Weir leather. The Volante features the unique signature ‘Z’ quilt pattern stitch on both seat and door sections, as well as the celebrated trademark Zagato ‘Z’ embossed on the headrests and stitched into the centre console.

Production of the Zagato Volante will commence once all the coupes are complete from the Autumn of 2017 with the first customers beginning to get cars before the end of the year.

    Vulcan

    Vulcan

The Vulcan is  described by the company as ‘the most extreme Aston Martin in our 102-year history’ which means that the power output has even eclipsed the 750 bhp of the 7.3 litre One-77, somewhere around 800 bhp. As it’s been solely built for the track, the car is in direct competition to such machines as the McLaren’s P1 GTR and Ferrari’s FXX-K. And also like these cars, it is taken for granted that the purchase price will include exclusive opportunities to sample the car at race tracks around the globe together with a team to set up both car and driver.

No exact price has been given but it will be in the region of £1.5 million plus local taxes but it’s a given that production will be severely limited to only 24 examples.

As the Vulcan is entirely carbon fibre, I think that it is safe to assume the starting point for the car has been the One-77.

We will get a first proper look as the Vulcan will debut at Geneva on the 3rd March 2015.

    DBS GT Zagato

    DBS GT Zagato

The Zagato is closely based on the DBS Superleggera but with an uprated version of the 5.2 litre V12 twin-turbo engine with peak power of 760 bhp.

The first example of the GT Zagato was shown at the Audrain’s Newport Concours in Rhode Island in the USA during October 2019. Finished in Supernova Red – a paint colour exclusively reserved for the DBS GT Zagato – with contrasting exposed carbon fibre accents, Satin Black and Gold 3D machined wheels and Caithness Spicy Red leather.

The DBS GT Zagato is the first car that utilises the first automotive application of configurable carbon and metal 3D-printed interior finishes. A central ‘saddle’ design feature in the interior is available in a range of three materials and finishes. This includes the choice of printed Carbon, Aluminium, or – as part of the Centenary Specification – Gold PVD (physical vapour deposition). The latter requires almost 100 hours of print time with additional polishing and post-processing by skilled craftsmen to achieve a perfect lustrous finish.

At the car’s front, a newly created and unique “dynamic” grille allows the car’s frontal area to transform its appearance. When stationary, each of the 108-individual diamond-shaped carbon fibre pieces remain flush with the car’s beautiful formed exterior. However, upon start-up DBS GT Zagato appear to flutter into life, as each piece opens to allow the car’s twin-turbo V12 to breathe.

This is also the first Aston Martin to utilised a camera-operated rear view central mirror as the car has a full length carbon fibre roof which covers where the rear windscreen would typically be.

The blue car below was one of the prototypes that was refinished to production specification. It was displayed in the showroom of Aston Martin Mayfair in Park Lane during Autumn 2021 with an asking price in the region of £1.2 million.

Only 19 pairs of cars plus prototypes have been built at the cost of £6 million pounds plus local taxes.

Delivery of the customer DBS GT Zagatos began in November 2020.
