A prototype car designed and built during World War 2. After driving the Atom, David Brown decided to buy Aston Martin in 1947. The chassis of the Atom became the basis of the DB1 through to the DB Mark III.
Taken from the name of Aston Hill in Buckinghamshire. The founders of Aston Martin, Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford had great success in hillclimbing before the Great War and decided to use the name for their new car. An added advantage is that it begins with ‘A’ so the model appears very near the top of any alphabetical list of cars.
The Aston Martin Owners Club, the greatest one make owners club in the world – formed in 1935 and still going strong, 80 years later. Whilst the HQ is in the UK, the membership is spread throughout the world with associated regions and areas on all continents.
The Aston Martin Heritage Trust was formed in the late 1990’s as an offshoot of the AMOC. The Trust shares ‘The Barn’, it’s HQ with the AMOC and is trusted to hold a substantial collection of cars and automobile. The AMHT publishes the Register of Aston Martins which I find essential to help me write this website.
