The Lagonda Rapide of the early 1960’s was a four door saloon based on a lengthened DB4 chassis and with a 4 litre version on the 6 cylinder unit. Now the name is being used on the current 4 door  car using the VH architecture.

The Aston Martin QV8 is a V8 Coupe that had been substantially modified both outside and inside by Design Q during 2002. The cost of the conversion has been estimated to be in excess of a million pounds sterling.

Prince of Wales (PoW)

Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, has been an Aston Martin owner since 1969. He had a V8 Vantage Volante made to his own personal specification in 1986 (no spoilers, air dam, skirts) and was subsequently known as the PoW. Now regarded at the ultimate V8.

Premier Automotive Group (PAG)

A sub section of the Ford Motor Company, that owned and ran AML alongside other premier Ford brands, Jaguar, Volvo and Land Rover. PAG was formed in 1999 and slowly dismantled from 2006 to 2010 as the various brands were sold off. AML left PAG in 2007 when it became independent.

Many Aston Martin prototypes have been identified with chassis numbers starting with DP for ‘design prototype’. Thus any car with the ‘DP’ prefix in the chassis number is a project car. More commonly, this refers specifically to the GT race cars from 1962/3, loosely based on the DB4 GT, known as DP212DP214, of which two were built and DP215.

‘Oscar India’ or in AMOC speak, the AM V8 Series 4. Unveiled at the Birmingham International Motor Show in October 1978 (Oscar India = October Introduction – phonetic alphabet). Body modifications included small lip on the boot lid plus a very refined interior with walnut veneer trim. Perhaps the most highly regarded and desired example of the standard V8. The contemporary V8 Vantage also received the same body modifications.

A British design consultancy company who produced a revolutionary special based on the DBS V8 in 1972, called ‘The Sotheby Special’. Also produced an alternative one-off dashboard design for a DB5.
