The Aston Martin internal code name for the V12 Vantage
The term ‘V’ cars was used from the mid 1990’s to describe the hand built Virage based V8’s such as the Virage Volante, V8 Coupe, V8 Vantage and V8 Volante LWB
This is a name used by AML to describe special editions of the V8 Vantage such as the N400, N420 and N430 all of which are influenced by the V8 Vantage N24 racecar. The ‘N’ is short for Nürburgring
This was the internal code name of the VH2 V8 Vantage, first used from probably 2000 and then publicly from 2002 identify the upcoming car to the press long before the prototype AMV8 Vantage was unveiled. Initially was to be mid-engined until the idea was quashed by the then new CEO Dr Bez in the autumn on 2000. The ‘3’ relates to a third model line, where 1 was the V12 Vantage and 2 was the DB7 & 9. The ’05’ related to the car being ready for sale in 2005.
The ECU, short for ’emotion control unit’ is a fancy term for a glass (or crystal) key fob that starts Gaydon cars from 2009MY onwards after being pushed into the facia of the car. It replaced the previous glass starter button.
This name has been applied to a number of special edition cars of the modern era such as the DBS, V12 Vantage and DB9. Almost but not always, the cars have been painted in metallic Carbon Black with similar Obsidian Black interiors.
