Touring’s famous ‘Superleggera’ script again adorned the bonnet of an Aston Martin. A collaboration that originally paved the way to the DB4, 5 and 6 cars, DBS Superleggera paid homage to the historic super lightweight construction technology of the famous Italian coachbuilder.
While based on DB11, the DBS Superleggera was lighter, more powerful and noticeably
quicker. The immaculately sculpted carbon fibre body panels gave it muscular styling and perhaps the largest grille seen on an Aston Martin to date.
The heart of DBS Superleggera was Aston Martin’s 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine. Set low and as far back in the chassis as possible to optimise the centre-of-gravity and weight distribution, this high-performance engine developed 715 bhp and 663 lb ft of torque. More than enough to take the car to a maximum speed of 211 mph and 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds.
Evolving innovative aerodynamic concepts first seen on DB11, such as the curlicue and aeroblade, then adding an F1-inspired double-diffuser; DBS Superleggera generated 180 kg of downforce at VMAX: the highest figure ever for a series production Aston Martin. This significant increase came with no additional drag penalty.
In January 2023, AML announced that the final batch of 499 DBS cars to be built during the last few months of production (June and July 2012), would be to ‘DBS
limited-edition specification.
By 2024, the DBS was replaced as the ‘super GT’ offering in the Aston Martin range by the Vanquish (AM3) after just six years of production.
